The exploding hookers were created by the real actress moving into a pre-determined position. A dummy was then made of them in that position which were then exploded on the set..Gabe Bartalos touches up the Kimberly Taylor dummy as Matt Vogel (behind the dummy) prepares the charges. Gino Crognale, Gabe Bartalos and Matt Vogel all put the finishing touches on the Kimberly Taylor dummy. The final Kimberly Taylor dummy... seen in the final film for probably 4 frames or less before it explodes. Patty Mullen on location in Valley Stream, Long Island, where the exteriors of Jeffrey's house were photographed. Unable to afford the city's price for filming on the subway, the production instead rented a half subway car from the MTA repair shop, put it on a flatbed truck, and parked it at Liberty Island, right across the Hudson from the production offices.
Director of Photography Bob Baldwin confers with Wendy Jo Cohen of the art department and FH. Preparing the subway car for shooting. Production assistant Rob Koch blacks out a window. Since the production couldn't show the subway car move, they simply blacked out the windows and filled the car with extras, shook the camera, and hoped nobody noticed. And nobody did. Gabe Bartalos poses with David Lipman's severed footGabe Bartalos poses next to the "pop top" Patty dummy. Head on.... Head off. A hinge at the back of the dummy's neck prevents the head from falling completely off. This is for the scene when Zorro punches her and she malfunctions. Dan Frye touches up Patty Mullen's makeup on the mad lab set. Gabe Bartalos prepares for the invasion of the body parts. Joe Gonzalez stands while Jeffrey's severed head watches. Gabe Bartalos positions the creature just right for the camera. The creature's hand is real and is attached to an actress beneath the floor of the set. Gabe Bartalos prepares the "titty-twister" creature as one of the puppeteer's looks on. Joe Gonzalez cracks up after getting kissed by the "titty twister." Joe Gonzalez waits patiently as the other body-part creatures are positioned around him. The set was built raised a few feet from the ground to give room for puppeteers beneath the floor. This same set was later converted into the attic in "Basket Case 2." Billy Messina attends to the "titty-twister" as the puppeteers ready themselves beneath. The garbage bags they're wearing is to protect them from the purple goop on the floor of the set. Gabe Bartalos and Billy Messina put the finishing touches on the rest of the body-part creatures as Joe Gonzalez remains patiently in place. FH points out where a creature will have to be in order to be seen by camera. Billy Messina positions one of the creatures as everything is bathed in purple goop. Puppeteers below prepare to have the tittytwister kiss Joe Gonzalez above. Covered in goo and body parts, Joe Gonzalez emerges from the freezer with a smileJoe Gonzalez holding two of the creatures that just "attacked" him. Barbara Bock, Jeffrey's new body, and Gabe Bartalos. Gabe can be quite scary at times. Barbara Bock puts the finishing touches on Jeffrey's new body. Gabe Bartalos cements James Lorinz into his new body. As you can see behind the table, James is sticking his head through a hole in it, while an actress' real hand becomes Jeffrey's new female hand.Gabe and his crew is working quickly since James will be stuck in this makeup until all the shots are completed -- a very uncomfortable position for him to remain in. Gino Crognale puts the finishing touches on James' neck appliance. James and Patty Mullen quickly rehearse a scene prior to shooting. FH goes over a last-minute change of dialogue before the camera rolls. Say goodnight, Kimberly. That's the end!
